28mm Eureka Napoleonic Ural Cossacks - Merry Christmas 2023!

Heh - these have been on the workbench for a few years and I've worked on them in fits and starts for a long time. At last, finished!

Here's the lot - 18 models - at least one of each of all the Ural Cossacks from Eureka Miniatures

This the second mounted unit I've ever painted in 25/28mm - the first one is at right there - another Cossack unit from Old Glory

They took up a lot of space on the table so glad to finally get them off the work bench at last!

Eureka Miniatures carries these beauts still and you can get your own set here: https://www.eurekaminuk.com/search?q=ural+cossacks

25mm Eureka Miniatures - Otto Von Tannenbaum with Sidekicks

Another former "exclusive" from CoolMiniorNot

The bottom shot was accompanied by the following caption:

"Von Tannenbaum had had just enough. He would not take the blame for this and resented his proud Prussian heritage being besmirched by the likes of that schwein from the Home Office. Though he secretly delighted at each new travesty that afflicted London and it's inhabitants, a growing unease was made manifest behind his outwardly cool contenance. He argued with great skill that it could only be the French or even the Americans but it was certainly not the peoples of the Reichland. In any event, if the London police were incapable of protecting the Prussian embassy than he would have no choice but to call in the Prussian troops waiting just off shore. He could not allow zombies, vampires and whatever else to jeopardize his true mission and if it meant tripling the guard then that is what he would do. Summoning Hauptmans Lulatsch and Schraat he bid his leave. Things were going to get worse before they got better and he had what looked like a siege to prepare for.

More neat figures from Eureka's Pax Limpop range. Here they are doing service in my Gothic Horror/Victorian London game I'm still working on."

25/28mm Eureka Miniatures - Victorian - Anarchist Nannys

These were posted on CoolMiniOrNot.com in in the early 2000s and are for my ongoing, never-ending Victorian London project. I post them here for the sake of completeness and in the unlikely event CMON ever disappears.

This was captioned then, "While promising a delicious romp on one hand she is bound to surprise her cad of an employer on the other! Yikes!"

Anarchist Nanny #2

Number 2 had this accompanying caption:

"Mary could not have believed Alice's hysterical outbursts had she not seen for herself the strange eyes peering through the nursery window on the previous evening. And the subsequent disappearance of the other servants unnerved her further and sent her outside for air at the first sign of the morning light.
As was her habit, she passed through the gate of the quiet cemetery and pushed the pram amongst the crumbling marble tombs. It was then she noticed the peculiar footprints that led towards an open grave and then suddenly disappeared. A chill came over her and she quickly turned back towards the carriage. It's contents were quiet and still and she reached down into it.
'Now what a thing to find,' thought Mary, not at first noticing that the baby Mantlebray was missing."

Anarchist Nanny #3

She had this as a caption: "To Alice, the protection of her charges were of paramount concern, and deep down she knew that Lord Montlebray would approve had he known of the growing threat. But Van Helsing had warned her not to move without him, yet she had to do something, and while it was still light. With these thoughts heavy in her mind, she went to the small cemetery across from the churchyard and in the hopes of destroying them in their tombs, set about her task."

A Visit to Eureka Miniatures - November 23, 2003

My sister won a two-week trip to Australia almost 20 years ago and I was lucky enough to accompany her as her guest. A week in Sydney, on to Melbourne, the Bush and back again. I pressed for this particular excursion and let her (foolishly) document the visit with her camera.

Here's a taste of her camera work:

Nic Robson and I talking shop

Humble storefront, but sincere!

The fulfillment center as it were

It was exciting for me to see the casting process up close.

Nic giving me the full tour

This was a game - still undeveloped - involving skirmish fighting atop a battlefield of ONLY roof tops, for which these were some prototypes. Customary creative and inspired originality from Nic and team!

We weren't there more than 20 minutes as it was all our schedule would allow but even with Australia and all of its wonders, this remains am unforgettable highlight!

L'Empereur et Jean Baptiste Eblé à Berezina

Eureka Miniatures has a number of miniatures that are hidden in plain sight at conventions, but never seem to be on their website. These are a good example and are sold together.

I s'pose the uniform could give him away, but a scenario, where he is hidden among the men, might be a fun one.

Illustrator Michael Chappell in his book with Haythornthwaite, show the Emperor in a red cap with this ensemble which is originally what I had done. Further research turned up this portrait so I had to make a change near the end. There's another of him in this gear questioning a serf that Google has now hidden from me.

Back to wizards and witches for a bit.

25mm Eureka Miniatures, Formal Lord Shaftsbury with Brandy

Eureka has a number of figures that are off the books and generally oop. This is one I cannot find on their site and was painted in the mid-'00s.

He's supposed to be standing on carpeting but not sure that's obvious here. I probably should custom cut some red felt for this.

Eyes a bit wonky, but otherwise ok.

15mm Grumpy Miniatures Pirates

Lovely little minis available from only Eureka Miniatures I believe. These officers types will be added in with the Peter Pig, Minifigs, Blue Moon and Rebel Minis pirates I'm collecting for a big Imagination game.

Pirate Captain or Officer (rear). These are too small to be the real captains so lesser officers in my game. The biggies - those from Blue Moon- will probably, by their height alone be more commanding.  Grumpy pirates are comparable in size to Peter Pig and Minifigs - closer to true 15. I'll have side by sides at a later date.

Cimaroons  (Front) In game, there is no reason to segregate them into their own units so they will join other musketeers or mix of armed men.

Cimaroons (Rear) The singular take away from completing these today is that I can still paint 15s as I always have, despite my advancing age. Being near sighted has continued advantages in this hobby.

No guns in this range, but I do like having extra artillery crewmen around. (Front) I do like the bucket swab boys, but considerably less the ram-rodders.

Artillery Crewman (Rear) Paint alone can almost make them look like different figures.

Sailors with Boarding Pike (Front) A pair of duplicates here but painted different makes it seem like there's a variety, no?

Sailors with Boarding Pike (Rear)

Another two pairs. This batch is 36 in total and was manageable at the time pf purchase to be singly based. I do regret not multi-basing these smaller rabble type figs. They don't quite have enough character to get their own base so would look nice in sets of threes. These are a mix of "Sailor with Cutlass and Pistol" and "Musketeer". (Front)

"Sailor with Cutlass and Pistol" and "Musketeer" (Rear)

More "Sailor with Cutlass and Pistol" and "Musketeer" (Front)

More "Sailor with Cutlass and Pistol" and "Musketeer" (Front)
Done with this brand, Peter Pig and Minifigs for the Pirate types - that's 223 figures if you're counting. I have over a hundred government type sailors done, (not done with bases so they remain un-posted), as well as the 54 civilians/mob and a dozen Renaissance mercenaries to fold in taking it to around 400. That leaves a bit more Peter Pig gov troops , plus all the Blue Moon and Rebel Minis to do. But, back to Napoleonics for a bit.
