25/28mm Extruded Gaming Wall Ruins, Sets 1-4

These unpainted scenery items seemed like a reasonable buy on Amazon from Extruded Gaming. Each set was $18-20 a piece so less than $80 for the lot. That seems like as a lot as I type it out, especially since the stratification lines seem glaringly obvious. The dry brushing really made that apparent. That said, I probably spent too much time on them but they came out pretty good in the end. 

There are complaints on Amazon that they are too small? Hm. That's not a charge I'd level particularly. Set 4 has smaller bricks/stones than the others but hang with the rest well enough.

Miniatures are Peasants from Crusader Miniatures I'd posted about last year on this blog. And that's a Cigar Box Battle Mats - one called Europe (Plush).

You tell me - good buy or no? 

 

Here's all 18 pieces - By design apparently, two are actually duplicates; fine, whatevs.

Citadel Contrast Paints: Flesh and Hair Variants

 

My obsession with Citadel Contrast Paints continues! This time for some peasants for no particular game - though most likely fodder for any number of Fantasy villains.

I thought I'd create a useful reference on the differences between the three "human" flesh colors they offer, but honestly, they are so subtle side-by-side it's hard to really rank them. I think you could use any of them and be satisfied.

This was the darkest out of the bottle and I thought it would be my favorite so I did two out of the four bases with it. As always, it requires the simplest of attention and it's all done. Everything pictures here is just one coat, pretty fast.

Guilliman is the lightest with Darkoath in the middle. Very difficult to tell and the shadow created by the longer hair makes it seem darker than they appear.

This is the lightest out of the bottle.

As I said, I think you could use any of them and be quite satisfied with them. I'll finish these up quick and see how they look all completed. 

 BONUS: I did the hair to see of that would help you see how the faces turned out: 

The best colors in my judgement are as follows: for gingers, Gore Grunta Fur; for blondes, Skeleton Horde is the most natural; for brunettes, Wyldewood looked best to me.

I'll probably never use the Gore Grunta for hair unless it's a civilian model where a redhead would add variety. Hard to tell here but Snakebite is not a natural hair color so won't use that again here either. Cygor Brown is, as always, too dang dark.

I also won't use Aggaros Dunes for hair either - it makes hair just a tad too yellow to be natural when Skeleton Horde gets it just right.

28mm Crusader Miniatures "Motley Crew" Cossack

 A alternate paint job, alternate location and some period details and Bob's yer uncle - pirate to Cossack:

Building is the 1/72 Russian Izba available here. The litter I've made into small battlefield "loot tokens" from what used to be Westfalia Miniatures, maybe a Perry piece and a Brigade Games crate in there too. Maybe even Murawski Miniatures; I've lost track.

 All I seem to be able to do with this campaign is to nibble around the edges.  =-(  I do everything but the French and Russians!

25mm Crusader Miniatures - Foreigners - Baron Otto, Alphonse, & Mad Jock

People ask how long it takes me to paint these: over two years in this case because I never paint anything from beginning to end but rather work on this or that as I go along. My paint table has a large mix of odds and ends - over a hundred figures of various ranges and sizes. This is a boredom prevention measure.

These are more characters for my Victorian Horror thing. Crusader only does a handful of useable figure for this project which have been re-purposed from their tiny Wild West range.

Nice clean sculpts - Crusader has a lot of inspired miniatures - especially their Pirates.
