25mm Old Glory Medieval - Revolting Peasants - Part 6 - Sticks and Hand Weapons

These bring the mob up to 68 of around 150 models. Still going strong and I'm sticking it through til the end, so far. My allowable off-ramps are terrain and other Medieval-related things.

These are representative bodies from the Sticks and Stones set (the sticks), some from the Looters and Pillagers (the torch bearers, and the bowl cut axeman), and the rest, the remainder of the bodies from the Scythes and Pitchforks set. I did the long weapons already, these are the handheld weapons - only one hand scythe and the rest axes. Remember that with Old Glory, each bag contains roughly 10–12 distinct body sculpts, with each one duplicated 2–3 times. The heads, however, vary from model to model—and even when a head is repeated, it's rarely paired with the same body.

A new color combo was centered around Reaper Pro Paint "Oiled Leather." The usual thing with these - a basecoat, Army Painter Strong tone, then a build back up with the base through the highlights. Every boot, belt and bag on every single mini has been and will continue to be, AP Fanatic Leather Brown. Natural wood are from AK Interactive Light Earth (as seen directly below). I may do some hair different - a few white haired dudes and a ginger seen here third from left:

Reaper Oiled Leather can be seen on models 2 and 6.

Number 4 has a good scheme too, with Americana - Portobello. I'm trying to get a good undyed wool color, and that's been my favorite option so far.

When I do use any Army Painter Fanatic paint, I will, after the Strong Tone, go right up through the tetrad, sometimes leapfrogging a shade to get bolder volumes. Much of the green was done this way.

The red on figure 4 is one I've used before - Pro Acryl's Burnt Sienna - that's as bright a red as I'll allow on these. Once I get to the proper serjeants and knights, I'll get bolder and brighter with many of the colors.

All together now ...

... in a bunch, in a bunch!
In the background is a newly painted Peasant House and little woodshed to the right from Perry Miniatures

The next batch is 21 figures - models from the Sticks and Stones set - (the stones specifically) and some looters and pillagers. Neaither have much in weaponry sculpted on so I've had to dig through the bits box to get scabards, shields and other stuff to adorn them with. I also made a mess o' broom bristle spears and drilled out some hands to accommodate them.

That will be the end of the individual models - the rest will be the bases of 2-3 models and will include all the dupes of the models you've already seen. 28mm Perry Miniatures - Napoleonic Russian Peasants

24 "angry" peasants finished!

Here is one set of the three of these sculpts. I was particularly inspired by the Russian film set during this conflict called "Vasilisa." It's rated poorly but I loved it - especially for the costumes. Thematically compelling, it's a principle reason I want to game this guerilla war aspect of the 1812 invasion. Here's the trailer if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dPk22ryL2U

Finally, the third set of three.

Just one set of those with captured weapons. If one isn't using one of the women figures as Vasilisa - an actual historical figure, then the officer/leaders will come from this set.

So you can compare the differences by each model. The faces are a bit of a let down compared to the layered parts but I can live with it.

Any one of these could be Vasilisa though I'm leaning towards the one on the right.

No rhyme or reason to the coloring of the sashes - just wanted to make sure I didn't create any duplicates.

28mm Perry Miniatures - Oathmark - Human Linebreakers (WotR - Foot Knights 1450-1500)

I had no intention of fielding Humans for Oathmark - preferring Undead, Dwarves, and Greenskins. BUT, I needed Living Suits of Armor for Silver Bayonet, leaving me with 30 extra knights. Rather than store them I thought I'd paint them up quick and have two 15 man units of Linebreakers OR one huge unit of 30.
One unit of blades, the other of pole arms

If you know my painting history, I don't do anything "quick" in any real sense. But, I reasoned, I'll just base coat them in Citadel Leadbelcher out of a rattle can and it'll take me a pair of sessions to whip out some heavy armor. This, of course, didn't happen. For the Living Suits of Armor I thought I would use my more customary methods (black primed and seen in rear below).

Several layers of dry brushing with lighter and lighter white metals and silvers worked well for a few but then I noticed there was so many fiddle bits of straps, boots, belts, buckles and bits of pommels, scabbards, etc etc that needed to be picked out. I definitely rushed these little bits. I did pre-paint the visible faces and flesh with Gray Seer and then used a Contrast flesh for the faces.
I'll probably never see them again (nor will you), but every model has cloth leggings - I pre-painted those too with Gray Seer and used a number of different Contrast paints to vary up the colors. These were mostly divided by a strap which I also dutifully painted.
The idea for the motif was inspired by one of my daughter's scheme she innovated at a Historicon paint and take on an elf archer she brought home.Starting with the shade colors, I applied them right over the silver. The double coat left some uneven textures behind and these figs, even at the end, don't survive close scrutiny.

A few layers of highlights later...

A flag pole! Yes tons of great banners in the box, but I deliberately disqualified these from being used in a historical setting. To the best of my knowledge this particular pattern never existed.

My solution for the flag was to print it up using MS Excel - worked fine in a pinch and I simply don't have the skills to build something decent with the handful of art programs I have at hand.
Weeks later, with all the details done, I got to the bases - just Americana Burnt Umber

This was followed by Geek Gaming Scenics' Taiga Hillside. I've found, as seen in my Austrian Napoleonic example, there is too much cork "rocks" in the blend so I filtered most of it out and threw some back in sparingly. Now they should be done right?

Nah - the face on the leader could use some work. Here's the "before"

Here's the "after" where I fixed up the hair too.

The colors still seemed to flat for me - especially the burgandy that needed a little more pep. Again, above is the "before"

and here is the "after"

THIN your paints bro!! no time for perfection here; I was done with these and wanted to move on. Where are my Three Foot Rule people?? (Though these still look better with the pop of Screamer Pink to highlight.)

On to the finished portraits!

The command elements - what should I name the king and "the prince"? Put your ideas in the comments below.

Name the king in the comments below

Your pants are showing

Yes, I did not highlight the flag.

Next up are some favorite poses - I love the versatility of these models - no two identical figures anywhere. I loved assembling these guys!

More pants

Racing stripes on the shoulders - surely it was never done this way.

The champion

I took too many shortcuts on these guys and they are not among my favorites - true tabletop quality - but it does shrink the to-be-painted pile!
