28mm Napoleonic - Horseflesh Scatter, Markers or Objectives

Seven more dead horses. Yes they can can convey a fallen mount, but during the retreat they represent life saving loot markers. I don't recall the manufacturer of a few of these - if anyone recognizes them, drop me a note in the comments, please.

Three of these (this one and the own below it) must be from an Ancients range? That looks like a broken off spear head on the model below.

These two are the only ones that read as "Napoleonic" because of the gear and are from Front Rank "Light Cavalry".

Three carts from Things from the Basement. These initially carried off loot taken from Moscow nobility, but they might be more useful carrying off wounded comrades.

Four of the same sculpt seemed a bit much so I'll use these two for the Peninsula instead. Again if you can identify the manufacturer of unidentified horses, let me know and I'd be happy to credit them.

28mm Perry Miniatures - Napoleonic Russian Peasants

24 "angry" peasants finished!

Here is one set of the three of these sculpts. I was particularly inspired by the Russian film set during this conflict called "Vasilisa." It's rated poorly but I loved it - especially for the costumes. Thematically compelling, it's a principle reason I want to game this guerilla war aspect of the 1812 invasion. Here's the trailer if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dPk22ryL2U

Finally, the third set of three.

Just one set of those with captured weapons. If one isn't using one of the women figures as Vasilisa - an actual historical figure, then the officer/leaders will come from this set.

So you can compare the differences by each model. The faces are a bit of a let down compared to the layered parts but I can live with it.

Any one of these could be Vasilisa though I'm leaning towards the one on the right.

No rhyme or reason to the coloring of the sashes - just wanted to make sure I didn't create any duplicates.

28mm Eureka Napoleonic Ural Cossacks - Merry Christmas 2023!

Heh - these have been on the workbench for a few years and I've worked on them in fits and starts for a long time. At last, finished!

Here's the lot - 18 models - at least one of each of all the Ural Cossacks from Eureka Miniatures

This the second mounted unit I've ever painted in 25/28mm - the first one is at right there - another Cossack unit from Old Glory

They took up a lot of space on the table so glad to finally get them off the work bench at last!

Eureka Miniatures carries these beauts still and you can get your own set here: https://www.eurekaminuk.com/search?q=ural+cossacks

Monster Fight Club Bushes Completed!

This is a bit of an imperfect presentation because of the uncorrected lighting - however, you could get a sense of what things could look like using different colors in for the highlights.

In a previous entry I mentioned that I had purchased three sets of these at HMGS cons. These unpainted versions come in a nice dark green plastic. I didn't wash or prime any of these but I will seal them once the weather warms up. Over all three sets I drybrushed Apple Barrel's Green Leaf.

The first set I mixed in some white to the Leaf Green, followed by another layer with even more white.

These shots have already appeared in an earlier post.
For the lower set here I added in a pure cadmium yellow a pair of times instead of white - more in line with how MFC's pre-painted bushes come.

For the third set (foreground), I added in a light tan a pair of times and honestly it looks lighter than the white did! If I have a tendency that persists to varying degrees is I get scared of highlighting too brightly leaving models tidy, but sometimes too flat. I'm better than I used to be but I probably should do another layer of whiter highlights on the first set (rear) - but I won't.

The yellow is pretty clearly a standout and is quite warm.

In this light - I honestly am not sure if this is the tan set or the white set! I think it's the former.

Monstrous werewolf for scale - that's a Cigar Box "Just Fields" battle mat under it all.

Here's the two cooler toned sets in play

And here are all three sets with the yellow one easily discernible at right. I'm not sold on these acting as hedgerows - more as random scatter or for small enclosure.

I also have a small set of unpainted fallen trees from Monster Fight Club and I bought more of their rocky terrain pieces - both of which will feature in the coming months.
